Photographer Thomas Petri’s quest for exploring and investigating the photographic media is a persistent passion.

His inspiration has as its source the desire to capture a mood, a fleeting moment or a tangible idea. Rooted in the fabric of his own life experiences Thomas translates these ideas through the prism of his lens into concrete images.

Thomas Petri is intrigued by the classic portrait – creating images which resonate immediately with people. Hence the timeless aesthetics and recognisability in his work.

Prior to a photo session Thomas explores a variety of visual concepts in order to produce
photographs of highly creative craftsmanship. However, the key to his work is his ability to leave all those preconceptions behind and focus entirely on seizing the moment when the essence of a human being is revealed. In his portraiture it is the personality of the individual, which fascinates him and gives his work its focus.

The human element is central in the photography of Thomas Petri:

"Whether I photograph theatre, opera, ballet, reportage, commercial campaigns, fashion or corporate portraiture – it is the human being and the dynamics between people, which I find fascinating to identify and visualize” 

To be photographed is about trust. My task is to create a space where everything can be explored while the integrity of the individual is preserved.
